The Ugly Fruit Group aims to beat hunger by reducing food waste, via the three pillars: reusing, donating and educating. Fresh produce of all shapes and sizes are just as delicious. So, we gather and distribute surplus fruit and vegetables from wholesalers/supermarkets which is otherwise destined for the waste.
WeCraft tackles social isolation through their creative workshop which offers sessions ranging from classes on still life art to original poetry readings. Community is at the heart of what we do: we are an organisation crafted by the community, for the community.
Our vision is to empower formerly unemployed youths in Kibera with entrepreneurship and employment that can support their community in the form of a Swap Shop: Taka Taka Zero. We want to contribute to the sustainable reduction of plastic and food waste, whilst providing healthy foods to impoverished families.
Glowcycle provides a community for female ex-prisoners through a variety of creative and skill-based workshops. Via the use of various individual and group based activities, we aim to help improve the employability and social skills of previously incarcerated women.
Trashion is our innovative response to fast fashion and over-consumption.
Our annual fundraising exhibition features garments made from repurposed and donated waste material. We raise awareness about the polluting impact of the fashion industry while showcasing a new mindset; rethink, recycle, repurpose.
The Incubation Team draws together the most creative and entrepreneurial minds in Durham University to brainstorm project ideas and assess the potential social impact of project ideas on beneficiaries. Utilising resources from business advisers, fresh ideas can be harnessed to achieve their maximum potential.
